Read MoreI actually dreamt up this shot months before I took it. I had the boat sitting in my car for so long that it was starting to get a little beat up around the edges. Then on a walk we had with one of our friends, I decided that was the day. We went down by the stream and found a small area where the boat could be set down (it didn't float very well). Once that was done, I introduced Emerson to the boat and took the shot.
This is probably one of my most widely known photos. We were taking a small walk in a local park and I saw this pathway ahead of us. So I grabbed the teddy bear from the stroller, and had my mother and my wife try to direct my son's attention to the bear. I clicked at the moment when it happend and I'm glad I did because it didn't happen again.
I saw the sun was setting with a beautiful sunset and there was a tree on a hill. I had my wife and a friend place the boys at the top of the hil under a tree and I adjusted the exposure for the sky while maintaining my open aperture. This created a sharp forground and a smooth sunset in the background. Incidently, both boys were chewing on grass blades...
